Style guide for AI

Language rules for how I talk about AI in my work.

Some language rules I’ve landed on when talking about AI in my content:

  • AI doesn’t “write”. AI generates. I’m the only one who writes.
  • Active voice, human agency. Always disclose agency and ascribe it to the right party: the human. “I built this with Claude”, not “this was built with AI”.
  • “Co-created” means I directed, Claude generated. Not the other way around.
  • AI is a tool, not a collaborator. It doesn’t have agency for human tasks. I research, I decide, I build. “I used Claude to research the approach”, not “we co-researched” or “Claude researched”.
  • No AI manipulation in the in-between steps. When Claude updates my content, it shows me the exact text, not a paraphrase or reinterpretation. What I approve is what gets written.
