The garden as a metaphor

Why this site is called a garden, what plant growth means for ideas, and how the metaphor shapes every editorial decision.

The metaphor of a digital garden matters. It says posts are alive, not finished. Some are seeds (a half-formed thought), some are saplings (in progress), some have grown into trees (settled). The reader is wandering through, not consuming a feed.

Most of what you write online is published into a stream that flattens everything: the off-the-cuff jotting and the carefully reasoned essay sit in the same shape. That flattening is editorial. Choosing a garden metaphor is a way of refusing it.
